NASA Headquarters Facts:
NASA Headquarters (HQ), located
in Washington, D.C., exercises management over the space flight
centers, research centers, and other installations that constitute
NASA. Responsibilities of HQ cover the determination of programs
and projects; establishment of management policies, procedures,
and performance criteria; evaluation of progress; and the
review and analysis of all phases of the aerospace program.

Executive Officer for the NASA
Chief Scientist
Mayra first joined NASA as an
Experiment Engineer at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, where
she tested Space Shuttle payloads prior to space flight. Subsequently,
she served for five years as a manager of the Life Sciences
Small Payloads Program in the Life Sciences Division of the
Office of Life and Microgravity Applications, at NASA Headquarters.
As Executive Officer to the
NASA Chief Scientist, Mayra is responsible for coordinating
Science Policy at the Agency. She works with representatives
from the NASA research organizations to ensure that the NASA
Science Policy is implemented as intended. For the past three
years she has been working to develop research metrics for
NASA, and in the past year she has represented the Agency
at an interagency working group for this issue. She is also
in charge of developing the NASA implementation to the Federal
Policy on Research Misconduct. She works to ensure communication
within the Agency research programs and between NASA other
Federal Agencies
Mayra was born and raised in
Puerto Rico. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Computer Engineering
from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida.
